Feedback from Participating artists.....

.....Shanta did a great job! well orgnised despite the rush. I wan't impressed by the actual Art Centre coffee shop area as a place to show work.  Magnolia chipboard paper and the feeling you were in a Cafe !  Plastering the walls would be a start. Ok so the Tate Modern wasn't free and it needs to be local.  Perhaps the others have suggestions for a somewhere where our work can be displayed for free later in the year to show off it's full potential.

I thought that the Community Crossroads exhibition was much better.  Some (well all) of those paintings are fantastic! The work was well displayed and well spread out. As for the sales.  Well I learnt one lesson...don't overprice work.  However, I do have 2 commissions to work on.....

.....Overall positive experience. Very few visitors, overall about twelve, half of which I hadn't met before. Some sales of smaller work (about £170 worth). Generally very encouraging response. Visited Vanetta Joffe's and Dave Bent's studios. Website and on the spot reports v. good......

.....I think the information must be in booklet form with maps, showing all the artists in an orderly directory form that can be referred to throughout the year -the postcards were confusing. Also they need to be available at least I month before the start of the event. Perhaps the time of year should not overlap with the Newbury and Oxford -both areas cusp Swindon and target the same audience.

I know it was a lot of work for Shanta, thank you for all your efforts. The load needs to be distributed and co-operative mentality nurtured in the artists taking part......

.....I was really glad I participated as I have met some really nice people, and I enjoyed the whole event. It was good to end it by showing work at Community Crossroads. I do agree with Shanta that it would be a good idea if all studios in one area were open at the same time. Also making sure we don't have studios open when big events are on in Swindon eg Old Town Festival. How about doing it in May? The only thing that might not be in its favour is the Bank Holiday weekend in May, but there seems to be lots of things going on in June.

We need more support from artsminds and the council and local organisations!!

If Shanta is happy to carry on and organise it for next year then I give my support to her as she certainly have the vision to make it succeed  and the best interests of the artists, but she needs more help and support. As I am not an established artist participating in Open Studios has been a positive event, meeting the other artists and getting new ideas and feedbacks.  I would have liked to have visited more artists myself and them visiting me. It would have been nice if more members of Artsminds could have visted artists they didn't know to see what new talent was out there!.....
